Sugar Beach Villa

 Welcome to Sugar Beach Villa!  We are excited to share our dream and little slice of heaven with you.  To make your stay more enjoyable, we have provided you with tips and tools for fun in the sun, as we know it.

Beaches:

Leaf Cay and Sandy Cay – Paradise found beaches.  Perfect for a windy day!  Some of the most beautiful small islands.  They are a 15-20 minute boat ride from Sugar Beach Villa.  You are almost assured complete seclusion, and miles of knee-deep azure water that is sheltered from the wind.  It’s a perfect place for kids or for a romantic lazy hang.  Visit the iguanas on Sandy Cay and walk for miles on the sandy shore.
Pigeon Cay – 5-minute boat ride from Sugar Beach Villa.  Great sheltered beach for a windy day.  Two sheltered coves with shallow waters, wonderful shell hunting and snorkeling.  Lots of bird watching and small lizards to entertain and delight!
Mariah Cay – 15-20 minute boat ride from Sugar Beach Villa.  There are miles of sandy shallow beaches, each cove more beautiful than the next.  Completely sheltered from the wind and very secluded.  Enjoy dramatic sight seeing on your journey.  Great beach, amazing views, great swimming.
Magic Beach – 10-minute walk from Sugar Beach Villa lets you explore another secluded and private beach.  Ask Billy for the secret path.
Tropic of Cancer Beach – Approximately 2 miles of beach just over the hill and a 5-minute walk from Sugar Beach Villa.  Great for joggers or walkers.  Ask Jolly for the enchanted trail.

Activities:

Boat Rental – A trip to Little Exuma is not complete without experiencing its charm by boat.  Shallow waters, unbelievable snorkeling and fishing make this outing a must.  Exuma boasts numerous secluded islands where you can enjoy its beauty and never see another person.  Rental is suggested on a weekly basis as they book up. Snorkeling

  • Right off Sugar Beach Villa is snorkeling on the reef towards the east side of the bay.
  • Snorkeling and fishing extravaganza with Jolly.  Search the hundreds of coral reefs for fish, conch, lobster and grouper.  Spot turtles, shark, porpoise, rays, not to mention an assortment of tropical island fish.  Join Jolly in hand lining yellow snapper and island favorites for your evening dinner.  Find some conch?  Enjoy Jolly’s fresh scorched conch for lunch on the beach.  An unforgettable day touring the north and south side of Little Exuma above the water and below!

Deep Sea Fishing

2 miles off the shore from Sugar Beach Villa enjoy miles of fishing on the reef wall.  Look for tuna, wahoo, king mackerel, mahi mahi (dolphin), and barracuda - all delectable eating!

Visit Williamstown, Little Exuma
The home of Mom’s Bakery, Santana’s Grill Pit, Maize’s Conch Fritters, the local church, the elementary school, goats, cats, dogs and chickens.  See the old Williamstown monument which was used to guide ships and fishermen.

Bike Riding – There’s no better way to catch the local flavor than a good ole bike ride.

  • 10 minutes to Williamstown
  • 30 minutes to the Ferry Bridge
  • 25 minutes to the Shark Lady
  • 1 hour into Georgetown, Exuma

Remember to stay on the left side of the road!!!

Bone fishing – Famous for its extensive flats, which holds the sands of bonefish.  Ask Jolly for a guide and reservations, Bone fishing guides are available.

Shopping

  • The Straw Market – Open most days.  Local-made crafts, t-shirts, bags, hats, etc.  Shop and chat under the town’s umbrella tree in the heart of Georgetown, Exuma.
  • Sandpiper – Art, clothes, crafts, best selection on the island.

Decks and Beach Hangs at Sugar Beach Villa:

Sugar Beach Villa Beach Areas:

  • Lizzy’s Laze – The most western point under the Kasarina tree, lie in the hammock and lose minutes and hours to the sound of the breeze through the trees.  There are stairs to beach to cool you.
  • Dale’s Daydream – Deck and beach area directly in front of house.  A cabinet with beverages and snacks are just steps away.  Whether you choose the shade of the palapa or the easy sun, rest your eyes on the azure sea as it changes hue.  Spend hours watching clouds dance by in the shapes of elephants, dogs, mice and bears to name a few.
  • Matt’s Beach – Secluded sandy perch with shade or sun, Brazilian hammock for a snooze and stairs to beach.  Enjoy the most picturesque views.  Watch the diving osprey and the terns.  Take the eastern path to the north inlet with warm knee-deep water and snorkel opportunities.

Decks

  • Main House Top Deck – Enjoy sunrise and coffee on the upper deck.  Beautiful vistas, shade by mid-day, sunset cocktails.  Stereo system for CDs and indoor/outdoor speakers.  There’s nothing like music at sunset.

Tip:  Bring your favorite CD’s.
Tip:  Important to stay in the breeze to reduce chance of a visit from the no see-ums mosquito, especially around sunset.  You may want to wear light socks if you are sensitive.

  • Sunset Deck-seats 12-15 easily, 2 shady palapas.  Enjoy appetizers, sunsets or just rock the day away with a good book.
  • “Down in the Hole” dining deck.  Great to take in the stars or a midday lunch.  Recommended for windy days.

Food

Exuma, Bahamas Services:

Market– The only real market on the island (cash only).  Suggested that you stop by on your way to Sugar Beach Villa or fax a shopping list to Jolly to purchase prior to your arrival.  Service fee of $100 will be added.

Liquor Store – John Marshall Liquor / Sam Gray Liquor (Visa, MasterCard)

Fresh Fish -   Grouper $6 a pound / Snapper $ 2 dollars a piece / conch $2 dollars each  / lobster  $15 dollars a pound

ICE  - $3.50 a bag

Dining and Services:

Williamstown

  • Santana’s Grill Pit – real local flavor.  Enjoy Dee’s cooking, ribs, conch, chicken and fish and more.  Sit outside, chat with the locals and watch the waves roll in.
  • Maize’s Conch Fritters – known for the best conch fritters on the island
  • Mom’s Bakery – nothing could be better than a hug from Mom and fresh bread or cakes.  The best in the Bahamas!

  • Le Shante – local food-limited menu.  Call before going.
  • Bone Fish Lodge – extensive menu. Call for reservations.

Georgetown, Bahamas – Great Exuma

  • Cheetah’s – popular island fare, local flavor.  On main road.
  • Sam's – great view overlooking the marina-island cooking-open breakfast, lunch, dinner.
  • Peace & Plenty – open breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Popular island fare.  On water.
  • Coconut Cove Restaurant – Pom & Tom owners.  Extensive menu, call for reservations.  On water.  Tropical feel.
  • Fish Fry – open lunches and dinners.  Wednesday nights are the local favorites.  5 small shark houses with island cooking.  Tasty home plate and Lorainna cooking are our favorites – very local, very fun.

Local Entertainment and Dancing:

Ask Jolly about local entertainment upon arrival and he will let you know what island band is playing where and on what night.

Finally:
Please remember that the Bahamas are not the Bahamas without polarized sunglasses such as Revo or Maui Jims!
